Moncada: a family and innovation story

We have been the brand of excellence for Sicilian fruit and vegetables over 60 years. A family business anchored to traditions, permeated with peasant culture but able to look upon new market developments without ever ceasing to innovate themselves and products.

In Ispica, a small town in Ragusa, Salvatore Moncada launches the production and the sale of vegetables and fruits for the main Italian markets.

Angelo, Rosario e Massimo, Salvatore’s sons, implement the commercial activity from a modern perspective, transforming the family farm into “Salvatore Moncada srl”, agreeing with large-scale retail trade and adding value to the brand.

The farm becomes part of  the Consortium for the Protection of PGI tomato of Pachino.

“Salvatore Moncada srl” gives way to the new "MoncadaSoc. Agr. Coop. O.P.'' company which includes, in its group, Ortomoncada s.s., that has been growing high quality standard tomatoes since the late 90s and also Moncada’s Selection which produces sauce, tomato puree and other tomato and vegetable-based preserves.

The farm launches the production of the authentic  iLcamone, which plantation is allowed only in Italy and authorized only  for four companies situated in the saline fields of Sicily and Sardinia.

Moncada’s farm reinforces its commitment to sustainability: it launches horticultural crops according to the organic regime, introduces greenhouses for the hydroponics crops and obtains the certification for the Nickel free* tomato production.

Packaging and distribution for large-scale retail trade

During 60 years of business, we have changed dimensions, markets and purposes and we have specialized in fruit and vegetable packaging: we have expanded our storehouses, increased and equipped the selection and processing lines with technological tools. Therefore, we have set ourselves as a point of reference for large-scale retail trade.

We have been using eco-friendly packaging for years to package fruit and vegetables products. We have been pioneers in this sector suggesting compostable cornstarch wraps (which replace the traditional plastic ones) and cardboard trays whose material derives from forests managed responsibly.

We valorize our territory

We enhance the generosity of the land cultivating Sicilian local excellences and the best quality vegetables which find their specific territory in our areas.

Our greenhouses are located in Ispica, in the province of Ragusa, a favorable mild climate area between the Iblei Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea.

A favorable area thanks to the dual nature of these fields which are clayey and calcareous; the saline and mineral water resources; the centuries-old effort of men who have dedicated themselves to mold the land and make it fertile, always in agreement with the rhythms of nature and respecting the environment.

Our greenhouses, surrounded by the Mediterranean scrub landscape which is embellished with dry stone walls and characterised by olive trees, carob trees and vines, protect the precious fruits of the countryside.
